OREANDA-NEWS  Donald Trump called Vice President Jay Dee Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio excellent candidates for the post of head of state in the next election.

"JD, it could be you, a lot of other people. Will it be JD or someone else? I do not know," he said at a dinner in the Rose Garden of the White House in honor of Police Officers Week.

Trump invited the guests of the event to show who likes Vance and who likes Rubio. In the end, they both received applause.

"Sounds great for a newsletter: JD and Marco. Perfect candidates. By the way, I believe that this is a dream team, but there are small details," the head of the White House said, without specifying what he meant.

Republicans must choose a candidate for president of the United States from their party before the elections in November 2028. Trump, according to the American constitution, can no longer run. Earlier, he stated that among his supporters there is a "good bench of candidates" for the role of his successor. In addition to Vance and Rubio, they talked about the head of the Treasury Department, Scott Bessent, and former Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristy Noem.
