OREANDA-NEWS The Irish Data Protection Commission has fined the Chinese company Bitte Danke, which owns the TikTok social network, 530 million euros for illegally transferring data about European users to China.
The commission also gave ByteDance six months to eliminate violations.
According to the commission, the company stored data on European TikTok users on servers in China, where they can be accessed by the Chinese authorities. This is a violation of the rules in force in the European Union prohibiting the transfer of information about Europeans to the authorities of other countries.
TikTok representatives announced their intention to appeal the regulator's decision and noted that they had never received a request for data on European citizens from the Chinese authorities and had never shared such data with them.
