OREANDA-NEWS  The flag-raising ceremony of the Russian Navy on the lead ice-class patrol ship Ivan Papanin of project 23550 took place in Severomorsk. This is reported by TASS.

"The ship Ivan Papanin is a special project. During its construction, complex technical solutions were introduced, some of which have no analogues in the global shipbuilding industry. The correctness of their implementation has been fully confirmed during the tests," Admiral Alexander Moiseev, Commander—in-Chief of the Navy, said at the ceremony.

The Ivan Papanin combat icebreaker was laid down in April 2017, and the ship was launched in October 2019. "Ivan Papanin" is capable of overcoming ice more than 1.5 meters thick. The icebreaker is armed with an AK-176MA 76-millimeter artillery system and machine guns. The representative of Project 23550 combines the properties of patrol ships, icebreakers and tugboats.
