OREANDA-NEWS A powerful earthquake occurred off the coast of Kamchatka. This is reported by specialists of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences in their Telegram channel.

The tremors were recorded on Monday, July 20, at 12:09 local time (03:09 Moscow time). Their magnitude reached 5.5, which is considered by seismologists to be a sufficiently strong earthquake that can lead to moderate damage.

The epicenter of the phenomenon was located 229 kilometers from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The source was located at a depth of 20.9 kilometers. The emergency services clarified that the earthquake was not felt in the settlements of the Russian region. There was no information about casualties or damage, and no tsunami threat was announced.

Earlier, an earthquake occurred at a railway junction in the Novosibirsk region. The magnitude of the tremors was estimated at 5.3. The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the region clarified that there were no damage or injuries.
