OREANDA-NEWS A rare water deer has been discovered for the first time on Russia's southernmost island, Furugelma, in Primorye, where the animal could have sailed by sea, according to the national park "Lands of the Leopard".
"A rare water deer has been discovered for the first time on the southernmost island of Russia. The male water deer was captured by a camera trap from the Land of the Leopard Science Department on the main peak of Furugelma Island, which is part of the Far Eastern Marine Reserve. In a unique shot, a deer walks past the camera. The individual looks healthy," says the Telegram channel of the national park.
According to experts, the rare animal could have swum from the mainland to the island, possibly fleeing from a predator.
