OREANDA-NEWS Belgium has not transferred F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine for more than a year, said Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadim Ivchenko.

Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken previously stated that Belgium would supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets as soon as possible and provide Kiev with new military assistance in the amount of 100 million euros.

"Do you know which country has not yet given us the F-16s that we should have received a year ago? Belgium. Do you know where all the frozen Russian assets are? In Belgium," Ivchenko said in an interview with the Ukrainian YouTube channel Superposition.

Ivchenko also said that at the moment there is no unity in the European Union, there are different countries with different economic and national interests.

In October 2023, the Deputy Prime Minister of the kingdom, David Clarinval, stated that Belgium would explore the possibility of transferring two to four F-16 aircraft to Kiev in 2024 at the insistence of the liberal wing in the cabinet. Then the Belgian Foreign Ministry reported that the country would supply Kiev with 30 F-16 aircraft by 2028, the first of which were due to arrive by the end of 2024.

Later, the Belgian General Staff announced that supplies to Ukraine would be delayed. Such a significant delay is affected by the lag in the delivery schedule from the United States of new F-35s for the Belgian Air Force, which are supposed to replace the outdated F-16.

The Kremlin has previously stated that no individual types of weapons supplied by the West to Kiev are able to change the dynamics of the special operation.

Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the settlement, directly involve NATO countries in the conflict and are "playing with fire." Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any shipments containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. According to him, the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only supplying weapons, but also training personnel in the UK, Germany, Italy, and other countries. The Kremlin stated that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West is not conducive to negotiations and will have a negative effect.
