OREANDA-NEWS  Russian enterprises could supply at least five times as many smartphones and tablets as they do now, but due to weak demand, production line capacities remain in demand by no more than 20 percent. Kommersant writes about this with reference to market participants.

According to the electronics manufacturer Fplus, the existing assembly lines have the capacity to produce up to 500,000 devices per year, but in reality we are talking only about 80-100 thousand. In turn, Sergey Kupriyanov, vice president of the electronics manufacturer Rikor, noted that the demand for tablets manufactured by his company had not increased over the year.

The main customer of domestic electronics remains large public and private companies with high security requirements, explained the representative of Aquarius. Demand was also driven by the ban on the use of Apple devices in a number of ministries and departments.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade claims that domestic enterprises could produce up to a million tablets and smartphones per year. However, as Alexander Kalinin, the founder of the Sovereign Mobile Initiative (Media Holding), pointed out, domestic operating systems (OS) have become a problem for Russian devices. They are devoid of the usual services and many native programs. In addition, the problem of the electronic component base has not been solved, and this task will take many years.

Last summer, the Association of Enterprises in the Field of Radio Electronics, Information Technology, Digital Innovation and Engineering asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to pass a law banning purchases of foreign electronics for state corporations and state-owned companies as soon as possible. In their opinion, domestic companies can compete with China only through restrictive measures, because the mechanisms of preferences and the minimum mandatory share almost do not work.
