OREANDA-NEWS. Technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of the new omicron coronavirus strain have been worked out, said the head of the Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko.

"Our group of specialists returned from South Africa, having fully worked out, together with Rospotrebnadzor, specialists from federal institutions, issues of providing medical care with a new strain of coronavirus," said Murashko at a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordination Council under the Government of the Russian Federation on combating coronavirus.

He added that Russian specialists have fully studied the course of the disease, conducted the necessary laboratory tests.

"Technologies for diagnostics, treatment and patient management have been fully developed today," the minister said.

Over a week in Russia, more than 1.3 million people were vaccinated, 190 thousand people a day, said the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko.

"During the week, more than 1.3 million people were vaccinated, this is 190 thousand people a day. In total, 78 million people were vaccinated. There are sufficient supplies of vaccine today, vaccination points, both mobile and stationary, have been organized in sufficient quantities," Murashko said at the meeting The Presidium of the Coronavirus Coordination Council.

The World Health Organization, following an emergency meeting, decided to classify a new variant of the coronavirus found in South Africa as causing concern. The new strain - B.1.1.529 - was named by the WHO with the Greek letter omicron.
