OREANDA-NEWS The Russian heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov can be called a real monster of air defense. The Western Military Watch Magazine (MWM) writes about this.
The publication recalls that the TARKR arsenal includes 80 cruise missiles, including the 3M14T Kalibr, designed to deliver precision strikes against ground targets at a distance of up to 2,500 kilometers, and the anti-ship hypersonic Zircons, which can reach speeds of up to Mach 9.
"However, the enormous combat potential of the cruiser as an air defense platform is often overlooked, with most of its extensive arsenal of vertical launchers, 96 out of 176, allocated to accommodate the long-range naval air defense system S—400," the publication says.
According to MWM, Admiral Nakhimov became the first ship with the S-400 naval variant to replace the S-300F air defense system. "The S-400 naval variant is expected to provide a range of up to 400 kilometers using 40H6 anti—aircraft missiles and integrate additional classes of shorter-range missiles for multi-level defense," the publication claims.
The magazine writes that the ship's air defense arsenal is equivalent to three S-400 ground divisions. "This arsenal exceeds the total arsenal of long—range anti-aircraft missiles in service with the vast majority of countries, and when exported as ground-based systems, it will cost about 1.6 billion dollars," the publication says.
