OREANDA-NEWS  In recent months, the interest of Russian businesses in hiring migrant workers from abroad has grown. Vedomosti writes about this with reference to the July report of the Central Bank "Regional Economy" and expert comments.

For example, quotas have been introduced in the Tambov Region for visitors from Southeast Asia and Africa, and in the Orel region, a cable manufacturer is going to employ migrants from African countries.

Yulia Florinskaya, an employee of the Institute for Social Analysis and Forecasting at the IPEI RANEPA, confirmed that the proportion of migrants from abroad is growing. The number of the latter can be determined by the number of valid work permits.

So, by the end of the first half of 2025, there were 171 thousand of them, and 129 thousand a year earlier. The number of contracts concluded with employees from non-CIS countries increased by 64 percent, from 43,000 to 71,000.

At the same time, the number of valid patents for migrants from individual CIS countries increased by six percent, from 1.9 million to 2.14 million permits, and the growth rate in the number of patent employees was 30 percent, 607,000 versus 459,000. Thus, the traditional directions of labor migration are still dominant, but competition from other countries is increasing.
