OREANDA-NEWS  Russia insistently calls on Japan to fully recognize the results of the Second World War and its responsibility for unleashing the conflict. This was reported in a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, which was published on the official website of the Foreign Ministry.

"We strongly urge Japan to fully recognize the international legal consequences of the Victory of the Allied states and responsibility for unleashing a global conflict," the diplomat stressed.

According to Lavrov, Victory Day over Japan has reappeared on the calendar of Russian public holidays "as a sign of reviving traditions and maintaining historical memory" of the events of those years. The Minister noted that "it is necessary to remember the lessons of the greatest tragedy of all mankind" in order to prevent history from repeating itself.

Earlier, Andrei Lankov, a professor at Kunming University in Seoul, in an interview with Lenta.<url> suggested that the United States could form an Asian equivalent of NATO with the participation of Japan and South Korea in the next 15 years. He stressed that such an alliance would be partially directed against Russia and would pose a strategic threat.
