OREANDA-NEWS The Polish Ministry of Defense on Monday announced the official start of the Iron Defender exercises (Zelazny Obronca) with the participation of NATO allies.
"The Polish army has begun the redeployment of personnel and equipment as part of the Iron Defender -25 exercises. This is one of the most important and largest planned military exercises of this year. At training grounds throughout Poland, as well as in the air and cyberspace, about 30 thousand military personnel from Poland and allied countries will practice defensive actions, including the use of new combat systems and modern military equipment," the report says.
"IronDefender is a test of interaction and combat effectiveness, as well as a demonstration of the transformation of the Polish Army," the Defense Ministry added.
Earlier, Defense Minister Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh reported that the main site of these exercises would be a training ground near the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. Ustka (the Central training ground of the Polish Air Force on the Baltic coast) and Nova Demba (a training ground in southeastern Poland, near the border with Ukraine) were also named among the major sites of the upcoming exercises.
About 30,000 Polish and NATO troops, including the United States, Sweden and Norway, are scheduled to participate in the maneuvers. Kosinyak-Kamysh noted that these exercises "will be a response to the largest Zapad-2025 exercises of the Armed Forces of Russia and Belarus this year."
The joint Belarusian-Russian strategic exercises of the armed forces Zapad-2025 will be held in Belarus from September 12 to 16.
