OREANDA-NEWS  It is important to take Russian national interests into account when resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This is how Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to US Vice President Jay Dee Vance's claims that Moscow's demands for a peace agreement are too high, TASS reports.

"We want our national interests to be respected during the settlement process. We want the original causes of the conflict to be resolved," the Kremlin spokesman stressed.

Peskov also pointed out that it is necessary to "take care of the initial reasons for the special military operation," since in this case "we are talking about security issues."

Earlier, Vance said that Russia's demands for a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine are too high. He added that currently "there is a huge gap" between the positions of Russia and Ukraine. However, he noted that his attitude is not pessimistic. The vice president stressed that "I would not say that the Russians are not interested in a settlement."
