OREANDA-NEWS  The most important task for 2025 is the transition of the Russian economy to balanced growth with moderate inflation and low unemployment. This goal was announced by President Vladimir Putin during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), the correspondent of reports.

Despite the difficult external background, in recent years the Russian economy has grown faster than the global average.

"The contribution of the raw material component to our economy is no longer decisive. Thanks to the work of tens of thousands of enterprises and companies, our economy is not only developing steadily, but is becoming more qualitative, complex and multifaceted," the head of state explained.

Despite the fact that the country still has insufficient wages, Russia has managed to achieve a record reduction in poverty. So, in 2024, this figure decreased to 7.2 percent: the number of poor Russians has decreased from 42.3 million to 10.5 million since 2000. In the future, it is necessary to reduce the poverty rate in the country to 5%, Putin stressed.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is one of the key events for business and the Russian economy. It was first held in 1997. Since then, the SPIEF has been held in St. Petersburg every summer. In 2025, it will be held for the 28th time.

As previously announced by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian leader, Putin in his speech will touch upon the development of the country's economy and international economic cooperation.
