OREANDA-NEWS  Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed to work out measures to limit the supply of TetraPak packaging materials from Asian countries to the Russian market in order to support domestic producers.

During Putin's meeting with entrepreneurs, Alexander Krivolapov, CEO of Packaging Systems, said that it is currently difficult for Russian manufacturers of packaging materials for milk, juices and other goods to compete with companies from Asian countries, including India and China. This threatens the risks that new enterprises that are currently being built in Russia will not be fully loaded.

At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, clarified that according to WTO rules, Moscow cannot impose a duty above 5% on imports of packaging materials from friendly India and China.

"There are subtle mechanisms... We need to work with them, we have all the mechanisms. Everything can be done if you work calmly and rhythmically," Putin commented.

The Head of State cited the automotive industry as an example, where, in particular, a recycling fee was introduced as a measure to support a domestic manufacturer.

"They are so big, all of our competitors, such skilled and skilled people, they manipulate all these percentages so much...", the head of state added.

In April, Putin launched a videoconference operation at an enterprise in Chekhov, Moscow region, which will produce packaging for long-term storage of beverages similar to the products of the TetraPak company that left Russia.
