OREANDA-NEWS Rospotrebnadzor keeps information on the outbreak of chikungunya fever in China under control; currently, no imported cases of the disease have been registered in the Russian Federation.
"Rospotrebnadzor is monitoring information about the outbreak of chikungunya fever in the Chinese province of Guangdong (...) Currently, no imported cases of chikungunya fever have been registered on the territory of the Russian Federation, but there are risks of importation," the ministry told reporters.
Chikungunya fever is a viral infection that is transmitted to humans through the bites of blood-sucking insects. The disease is not transmitted from person to person.
According to Rspotrebnadzor, the Perimeter automated information system is used to ensure security at border checkpoints, which allows identifying citizens with signs of infectious diseases. For the rapid detection of the disease in the Russian Federation, there are domestic test systems available.
In addition, according to the department, the circulation of mosquitoes carrying chikungunya fever is also constantly monitored in the Russian Federation. "The recorded number of mosquitoes carrying Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus and data on the absence of their infection show that today there is no epidemiological danger," the ministry stressed.
To reduce the risk of infection of citizens traveling to countries endemic to chikungunya fever, Rospotrebnadzor recommends avoiding insect bites. To do this, use repellents, mosquito nets on doors and windows, bed curtains, and wear skin-covering clothing (pants, long-sleeve shirts).
Earlier it was reported in the media that more than 7 thousand cases of chikungunya virus infection have been registered in China.
