Spaniards were warned about the risk of a blackout

OREANDA-NEWS Over the past two weeks, voltage surges have been registered in Spain, which can negatively affect the stability of the country's energy supply. This was warned by the Spanish electricity grid operator REE in a document sent to the Spanish market regulator CNMC, which became known to Reuters.
"According to the information provided to CNMC by the system operator, the sharp voltage fluctuations recorded over the past two weeks, although within acceptable limits, can potentially lead to disconnection of consumers and/or generation, which can eventually destabilize the energy system," the statement said.
REE recalled the power outage of millions of consumers in Europe that occurred in April 2025 due to excessive voltage, and called for technical changes to be made as soon as possible to prevent possible power outages. In turn, CNMC assured that public consultations will be held in the coming days to work out temporary solutions that will stabilize the energy system until long-term measures are taken.
Earlier it was reported that the damage from the blackout that European countries faced in April could reach 1.2 billion euros.
