This was announced on April 16 by Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura, who is responsible for measures to combat the coronavirus infection. “Minimizing the movement of people during the long weekend is an urgent task,” the politician stressed during a meeting of the emergency advisory council.

Previously, a state of emergency was introduced until May 6 in the prefectures of Tokyo, Osaka, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Hyogo, and Fukuoka. From April 16, it will be in force in other regions of the country, as the spread of the coronavirus continues. This measure will allow local authorities to demand the closure of schools and a number of other institutions.
