OREANDA-NEWS  The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran, signed by the presidents of the two countries in January this year in Moscow, officially entered into force on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"This event marks an important milestone in the history of Russian-Iranian interstate relations, which have reached a qualitatively new level of comprehensive strategic partnership. The document sets key guidelines for all priority areas of bilateral cooperation in the long term," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

According to Smolenskaya Square, the agreement "provides for strengthening cooperation in the international arena in the context of the formation of a multipolar world order, including close coordination within the framework of leading multilateral associations, joint efforts to strengthen stability and security in the region, and countering common challenges and threats."

"The agreement reflects the strategic choice of the top political leadership of Russia and Iran in favor of further comprehensive strengthening of friendly, good-neighborly relations, which meets the fundamental interests of the peoples of the two states," the Foreign Ministry said.
