OREANDA-NEWS. Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnik called on the new German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, to organize opposition to Russian policy. He told about this on December 8 to the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.

According to Melnik, Kiev is pinning its hopes on the new federal government. The Ukrainian side is waiting for a "powerful voice from Berlin" in order to provide a "cold shower" for Russia, as it is supposedly "preparing for war."

The ambassador added that the Ukrainian authorities hope that Scholz will show a diplomatic initiative that will "end the occupation of Crimea and Donbass." He called on the new chancellor to convene a Normandy Four summit in Berlin within the coming weeks.

In addition, the Ukrainian ambassador demanded that the German government publish a "catalog of harsh and painful punitive measures" against Russia. These should include a ban on Nord Stream 2 in the event of a Russian "invasion" of Ukraine.

The new German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, on December 8, commenting on the situation around Ukraine, said that it is necessary to observe the principle of inviolability of borders, otherwise there will be "consequences." He also stressed that the main thing in the situation with Ukraine is to prevent confrontation.

It is recalled that Olaf Scholz became the ninth chancellor of Germany on December 8, replacing Angela Merkel, who had been in power for 16 years.
