OREANDA-NEWS  US President Donald Trump has reviewed Russian Leader Vladimir Putin's proposal to comply with restrictions under the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (START Treaty) during the year. This was stated by White House press Secretary Caroline Levitt, TASS reports.

"The President [of the United States Donald Trump] is aware of this proposal, and he will personally comment on it later," she said. At the same time, Levitt stressed that the initiative of the Russian president sounds "pretty good."

Earlier, during a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council, Putin said that Russia was ready to voluntarily comply with the restrictions on the START Treaty after its expiration on February 5, 2026, if the United States took a similar step.

Darel Kimball, Executive Director of the American Arms Control Association, noted that the Russian leader's proposal on the START Treaty is a positive step. In his opinion, the head of the White House should respond by agreeing to Moscow's relevant initiative.
