OREANDA-NEWS  President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky supported Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a telephone conversation amid tensions in relations with Russia. The politician posted the message on his Telegram channel.

"I thanked him for his support of Ukraine, our people and our territorial integrity. I also expressed clear support from Ukraine," he stressed.

During the conversation, Zelensky accused Russia of allegedly threatening Azerbaijan and the country's citizens. He also demanded an investigation into all the circumstances of the detention of Azerbaijani citizens in Yekaterinburg. The politicians also discussed bilateral cooperation in the economy, energy and humanitarian spheres.

Earlier, Azerbaijani Ambassador Rahman Mustafayev handed Russia a protest note during his last visit to the Russian Foreign Ministry. It is also reported that the note was handed over "in connection with a serious violation of the law in Yekaterinburg."
