Russian President Vladimir Putin remains in the spotlight of the Russian press in 2021: in January, he was mentioned 226,627 times in the materials of the Russian media of political, financial and economic orientation. These are the data of the «Integrated News Analysis System», created by «Interfax».

The second line of the rating of the most mentioned persons in the press is occupied by the new US President Joe Biden, whose inauguration took place in Washington on January 20. Biden has 177,353 references in the Russian media, while Donald Trump, who left the White House, has 160,118 mentions and is ranked third.

According to the results of January, opposition leader Alexei Navalny (136,871 links) rose to the fourth place from the ninth. His return to Moscow after treatment in a Berlin clinic and subsequent arrest for non-performance of duties imposed by a suspended sentence were widely covered by the Russian media, as well as the unauthorized actions in support of him that took place in Moscow and the regions on January 23 and 31.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who led the August rating against the background of the protests, was in fifth place, but with a large lag behind the leaders in the number of mentions in the media (43,421 links).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has the sixth place and 43,313 references in the press. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin came very close to the Ukrainian leader in terms of the number of mentions (40,493 references, seventh place).
