OREANDA-NEWS  Russia's main Christmas tree was chosen among the trees near Moscow. This was reported by the press service of the Government of the Moscow region.

The Christmas tree grew on the territory of the Ruza municipal district. Its height is 26 meters, the trunk circumference is 64 centimeters, and the span of the lower branches is 11 meters. In the near future, the tree will be transported to the capital and installed on the Cathedral Square of the Kremlin.

It is noted that since 2007, the country's main Christmas tree has been imported from the Moscow region. All local forestry departments send their trees to the competition. In summer and autumn, the commission examines 24 Christmas trees corresponding to the parameters and makes a choice. The winner must be visually attractive, have an even trunk, a pyramidal shape, fluffy branches with a base span of at least eight meters, as well as the appropriate height and age. The quality of the wood also plays an important role, so that it can withstand temperature fluctuations and does not crumble during the New Year holidays.

Earlier, singer and TV presenter Anna Semenovich criticized the tradition of buying live Christmas trees at home. She stated that in this way people deprive the tree of life.
