OREANDA-NEWS.  The American corporation General Motors considers the correct decision to reorganize the business in Russia. Bu there is no question of how to get away from the Russian market. GM’s spokesman Nico Schmidt informed about it analytic agency "AUTOSTAT", by adding that the company continues to adhere to the chosen strategy.

"In March of 2015, we decided to change the business model in Russia in connection with the effect of the weak economy on demand. We have taken decisive actions. In particular, we mothballed plant in St. Petersburg and we recalled the brand Opel, as well as mass model Chevrolet. Since then, General Motors focused on the premium segment of the Russian market with such legendary Cadillac and American models of Chevrolet, as the Corvette, Camaro and Tahoe. As you can see, we remain active in the Russian market. In no case we do not leave, we will only have restructured our business processes, "- said Mr. Schmidt.

At the same time, General Motors refused to comment on the future of its own plant in St. Petersburg, by noting that the state of the market in Russia is still very difficult, if in 2015 the sales of cars dropped more than by 30%, then in the first quarter of 2016 this figure exceeded 15%. "While the economy recovery signs are not visible, we believe that our very difficult decision is the right one. It would be impractical to wait longer; it would have a negative impact on our business. The made decision helped to avoid significant investments in the market, which has very difficult long-term perspective", - said Mr. Schmidt.
