OREANDA-NEWS. On June 30, 2008 an international conference on transfrontier cooperation and development of the Dnipro Euroregion started in Chernihiv (North Ukraine). Participating in the forum are representatives from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, local self-government, reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.

The conference participants are to discuss aspects of border cooperation in Europe and possibilities of the Dnipro Euroregion development which includes the Chernihiv, Briansk (Russia) and Gomel (Belarus) regions.

At the opening ceremony, Congress President Yavuz Mildon noted that transfrontier cooperation in the EU states is reflected in the fields of regional and urban development, agriculture, environment, emergency assistance, improvement of authorities' activity.

Ukraine's Regional Development and Construction Minister Vasyl Kuybida stressed importance of transfrontier cooperation as a tool for solving joint problems. In Ukraine, according to him, a basis of the relevant legal framework is created but needs improvement.

There are seven Euroregions operating in Ukraine: Carpathian, Buh, Lower Danube, Upper Prut, Dnipro, Slobozhanshchyna, Yaroslavna.
