OREANDA-NEWS. November 17, 2011. The “EUROCEMENT group” Holding acted as the general partner of the “Concrete road paving. Modern construction technologies” conference. 

The conference was held on October 27 – 28, 2011 at the Moscow State Automobile & Road Technical University.

“MC-Bauchemie”, Ltd, together with the “EUROCEMENT group” Holding, acted as general partners of the conference. 

The conference program included the main topic: the prospects of construction of roads with cement concrete paving in Russia and abroad. Issues of normative-technical documentation and features of hard paving construction in Russia, according to the requirements of European countries and Russia normative and technical documentation with regards to the construction of concrete paving have been addressed. Discussion also included quality control of works, peculiarities of paving repair, the requirements to concrete used in road construction and application of new standards. 

Welcoming remarks were made by Victor Vasilievich Ushakov, doctor of technical sciences, professor, Vice Rector of MADI, Chairman of the Scientific-Technical Council of the “Avtodor” GC.

As stated by the conference participants, Russia is currently significantly inferior to developed countries in terms of the length of roads per capita. As for the length of roads per unit area indicator Russia is inferior not only to developed countries but also the BRIC countries. 

The experts also noted that unlike the asphalt road the road with cement concrete pavement had the lesser impact on the depletion of resources and the environment with the higher traffic volume. With regard to assessing the cost of the life cycle, the difference in the amount of costs is ranging from 18 to 24% in favor of the road with cement concrete paving. The main solution, which is seen by industry experts, is construction of cement roads. 

Exactly this was mentioned in the Tekucheva Elena Vasilieva a representative of the “EUROCEMENT group” Holding, head of QC department and “Oskolcement”, JSC laboratory speech.

She, in particular, drew the attention of the conference participants to the fact that the concrete cover, which has long and successfully been used in the USA and Europe, was more resistant to external influences not only due to the material structure, but also due to the constantly improving technologies of its application. 

As it was noted during her speech, the “EUROCEMENT group” Holding was one of the first which chosen the way of country road infrastructure modernization, and the in early 2011 signed an agreement to implement a pilot program for the construction of concrete roads in the Belgorod region with the Administration of the Belgorod region. 

As it was noted during the “Concrete road paving. Modern construction technologies” conference according to the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation, approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. USD  1.6 trillion will be invested in the construction of Russia’s transport infrastructure until 2020. Investments in transport infrastructure require construction of roads with concrete paving, construction of runways and other. This will lead to an increase in demand for cement and concrete.  

Participants of the forum extensively discussed the issue of improving the road infrastructure and concluded that the introduction of innovative solutions in the road sector, including construction of concrete roads, could solve the problem of the economic efficiency increase of existing and newly constructed transport links and give the acceleration to the domestic economy modernization processes.
