OREANDA-NEWS. February 16, 2012. To enhance employability of youth around its Jojobera thermal power station Tata Power has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TBSS. TBSS is a business process outsourcing (BPO) company, engaged in providing customer contact centre and customer management process solutions.

As per the MoU, TBSS will train young girls and boys hailing from in and around its Jojobera power station. This employability training christened ‘Sambhavana’ focuses on imparting training to the youth who have the potential; thus, enabling them to get a job in the BPO sector. In a year, around 150 youth will be trained and the training cost will be borne by the Jojobera thermal station. TBSS will offer employment opportunity directly to the candidates identified with the desired skill set, subject to the vacancies and their qualifying on the criteria.

Speaking on the occasion PL Manjrekar, general manager, Jojobera thermal power station, Tata Power, said, “Tata Power strongly believes in empowering its community through vocational training and opportunities for the youth. We look forward to a good response to this initiative.”

Jojobera is also exploring a similar skill-development programme for out-of-school boys and girls. Discussions are going on with(Indian Standard for Training and Development (ISTD) for training of youth on modular employable skills (MES) under its skill development initiative in the area of electricians, welders, etc. MES is a component of national skill development council.

Tata Power has created several livelihood and employability opportunities for the youth in the country. The rural BPO inaugurated in September 2009, situated in the western ghats of Maharashtra, Khopoli, and close to the Tata Power hydro-generation facility under the aegis of Mannat Foundation, the community initiative arm of the company has grown to a capacity of 230 call agents in the last 20 months. The 330-seat call centre lends itself to provide alternative employment to the youth of rural India with an aim of creating self-sustained community development.

Further, in collaboration with Mulshi Dharan Vibhag Shikshan Mandal the company has started an industrial training institute.The institute has been set up with the objective to upgrade the quality of education for the locals and in the surrounding areas. Under the collaboration, the infrastructure facility for starting the ITI has been created by Tata Power which includes the machinery and tools required for various trades. Going forward, the institute will explore possibilities of increasing the enrolment number and thereby extending the benefits to an even large section of youth in Mulshi and Maval region in Maharashtra.
