Agricultural Production Fell 22,4% in Moldova in 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. January 30, 2013. The decline was explained by a considerable decrease in the yield caused by the summer drought, which made 32.6%, NBS reports. Livestock production declined 1.1% in 2012. In 2012 the total amount of agricultural production included the 59% share of the plant production and the 41% of the livestock one.
According to NBM, the index numbers of agricultural production were aversively contributed to by the grain and the leguminous crop failure. The crop dropped by 51.1% to 1 mln. 204 thou. tons. The gross yield declined by 37.8 to 494 thou t. of wheat; 61% to 571 thou. t. of maize; 48.1% to 182 thou. t. of potatoes; 36.7% to 231 thou. of other vegetables; 30.9% to 295 thou. t. of sunflower and 15.3% to 505 thou. t. of grapes.
Caused by the drought, the average yield capacity declined 2.7 times of maize, 1.7 times of wheat, 1.6 times of soya, potatoes and sunflower each, 1.5 times of barley and 1.4 times of vegetables. In 2012 livestock production grew 2.8% to 165 thou. t. in Moldova. Cow milk production decreased 5.3 to 528 thou. t., eggs production declined 9.7% -to 633 mln. pieces. The decrease in eggs and milk production was recorded, mostly in households and determined buy a decline in both: head of cattle and laying hen and their productivity.
Close to 32% of the gross agricultural production of Moldova fell on agricultural companies, 17% of farms and 51% of household. The big share of households in the total agricultural production was formed mostly by a considerable share of livestock production in them.
A share of household made up about 78% of the total volume of the livestock production in Moldova in 2012. Last year, as before, agricultural enterprises produced the bulk of sugar beets (89%), rape (87%), tobacco – 76%, crops and the leguminous, maize excluded, - 74%, soya beans – 72% and sunflower – 70%.
At the same time, 83% of potatoes and vegetables, 81% of maize, 78% of grapes, 97% of milk, 73% o meat and 62% of eggs were produced at households and farms.
