OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2013. According to the National Bank of Moldova, in March, 2013 remittances from aboard in favour of individuals made via commercial banks amounted to USD 117.85 million, 4.9% up or USD 112.36 million more as compared with the same period of 2012.

In Q1 of 2013 in the structure of remittances about 34.3% fell to USD, 3.5% to EUR and 27.2% to RUB. The total amount of remittances in January-March, 2013 made about USD 281.66 million or 88% (USD 252.61 million or 87.4% the same period in 2012), transferred to Moldova through various rapid money transfer systems, the National Bank informs.

In the same period, in 2012, in the structure of remittances about 41.8% fell to USD, 39.1% to EUR and 19.1% to RUB. Altogether in 2012 remittances from aboard in favour of individuals made via commercial banks made USD 1 billion 494.23 million, growing by 3.5% versus the previous year. In particular, in Q1 of 2012 remittances from aboard in favour of individuals made USD 288.96 million, in Q2 – USD 361.96 million, in Q3 – USD 421.89 million, and in Q4 – USD 421.42 million.

The greatest sum fell on October, 2012 and made up USD 152.73 million, the smallest one falling on January, 2012 and being USD 81.9 million. The biggest receipts to Moldova come from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, remittances from Moldova’s labour migrants amount to 20% to 30% of GDP of Moldova. The all-time peak of the volume of money transfers to Moldova made in favour of individuals via commercial banks was recorded in 2008, when it amounted to USD 1 billion 660.09 million.
