OREANDA-NEWS. July 04, 2013. The Government ensures control and creates conditions to protect citizens, territories and potentially dangerous objects from emergency situations in summer fire hazardous period. This was emphasized by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Vilkul during a meeting of Interdepartmental operative headquarters for coordination of actions of central and local executive authorities, which took place on Chornobyl NPP.

“Ukraine faces intense heat which is to prolong till the end of August. The Government is creating conditions in order to protect people, territories and potentially dangerous objects from emergency situations in summer period. Regulations of interaction among the State Emergency Service, law enforcement bodies, military and local authorities have been upgraded. Peculiar attention is being paid to eth Chornobyl zone,” the Vice Premier has said. 

He stressed that all forces and means had been brought to the highest state of readiness to operatively response and hold preventive measures. The situation with fires stays under constant control of the Government. “Now constant monitoring of environment and operative response to threats are being held, in particular in fire hazardous natural ecosystems – forests, peat storages, rural areas,” Olexandr Vilkul explained.

Olexandr Vilkul commissioned subdivisions of the State Emergency Service in synergy with local authorities to strengthen control over the state of fire safety of located in the vicinity forestlands inhabited localities, transport communications, life-supporting infrastructure, objects of high danger and places of mass recreation of citizens. In particular, to carry on systematic raids and patrolling.

Moreover, he instructed local authorities to take measures directed to cleaning forests from obstructions in order not to afford accumulation of inflammable materials on plots adjacent to forests, peat stores and farmlands.

The Vice Premier noted that in rural areas, where over 40% of fires take place, there had been organized 24-hour activity of over 1 thousand subdivisions of local fire patrol. Moreover, the register of equipment of private enterprises has been created to operatively react to emergency situations.
