OREANDA-NEWS. Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, has summed up results of network operation during winter holidays. Between 31 December 2014 and 11 January 2015 Tele2 subscribers made a record number of calls − over 1.2 bn − and sent over 450 million SMS and MMS. Tele2 subscribers made over 64 million outgoing calls on New Year’s night between 6 pm, 31 December 2014 and 8 am, 1 January 2015.

Their duration totaled around 125 million minutes. The number of calls hit its peak in the morning on 31 December and not between midnight and 1 am, 1 January as usually. Apart from heavy voice volume, the operator has also registered rise in data connections. Tele2 subscribers actively texted and sent MMS to greet their families and friends. All in all, Tele2 subscribers sent over 73 mn SMS and MMS on New Year’s night. Subscribers from Chelyabinsk, St. Petersburg, Kemerovo, Rostov-on-Don, Omsk and Voronezh were most active in congratulating friends and families.

The company has worked over 2014 to create conditions for sustainability of the Tele2 network. When planning rollout, the company is taking into account both a considerable increase in a number of subscribers (over 11 million from January to September) and peak loads during holidays. In 2014, Tele2 Russia expanded its operations and improved the quality of connections. The company has built up and commissioned new facilities, upgraded operating bases, which resulted in considerable increase in the network capacity. Tele2 engineers have also activated special settings in the run-up to holidays, which provided its sustainability during peak loads.
