OREANDA-NEWS. SSE is proud to have been nominated for four Utility Week awards. The nominations are spread across a number of business areas and include: Utility of the Year (Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission), Customer Care (SSE Enterprise Utilities), Environment (SSE plc) and Marketing Initiative of the Year (SSE Enterprise).

Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission’s (SHET) nomination as Utility of the Year reflects its overall performance in terms of satisfaction from stakeholders, customers (both domestic and business) and shareholders, with extra consideration for corporate social responsibility, sustainability and staff development/training.

Over the next year, SHET expects to invest ?600 million and from 2013 – 2021, it will invest at least ?2.4 billion in infrastructure for renewable energy generation.

SSE Enterprises’ Customer Care nomination is for the introduction of a low user tariff at the Wynford Estate in Glasgow. In 2011 a new heating system was installed by Enterprise Utilities, removing the need for each property to have a boiler. This helped to reduce carbon emissions however it was felt by residents that this system discriminated against those with low usage. The introduction of this new tariff allowed customers to use the system with confidence. Customers in the estate are also kept aware of deals which most suit their usage.

The Environment nomination is for a series of solar panel investments at our Penner Road site, which were installed in late 2014 and are being used to help power two local data centres, as well as supplement the offices. There are also panels in the car park which help charge electric cars. Data from all of these are displayed in the building entrances, giving our employees a visual demonstration of the difference these changes are making.

The Marketing Initiative nomination is for an integrated marketing campaign to highlight the involvement of SSE Enterprise at iconic sites such as the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The campaign drove awareness of what the business does among chief executives, increased web traffic and created new business leads.

The awards ceremony will be held in December at the Grosvenor house Hotel in London.
