OREANDA-NEWS. On October 25 direct air flights between Ukraine and the Russian Federation came to an end. The decision was taken to fulfill a resolution of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of September 2, 2015 "On Imposition of Personal Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions)".

Russian airlines are banned to perform direct flights to Ukrainian cities, however, transit flights over the territory of Ukraine are afforded, if an aircraft is not carrying dual-use or military goods or Russian military manpower.

Whereas, a particular mode of transit flights through Ukraine is applied for the Aeroflot and the Transaero airlines. These carriers should contact the State aviation service to obtain a transit permission for each particular flight through Ukraine in the communication between the Russian Federation and Bulgaria, Israel, Turkey, Egypt and Greece.

It should be noted that Ukraine imposed sanctions against 29 Russian airlines that violated the national legislation of Ukraine and an intergovernmental agreement by performing flights to the annexed Crimea and via the prohibited areas.
