OREANDA-NEWS  By the end of 2024, the production of pollock surimi in Russia increased by 47 percent compared to 2023 and reached the level of 70.8 thousand tons. The newspaper Izvestia reports on a sharp increase in the production of raw materials for the production of crab sticks and other semi-finished fish products popular all over the world, citing data from the Association of Pollock Miners (ADM).

For comparison, in 2023, the production of pollock surimi in Russia was estimated at 47.5 thousand tons. Thus, in 12 months, the total output of this raw material in the country increased by 22.5 thousand. This dynamic has allowed the Russian Federation to gain a foothold in the list of the world's largest pollock surimi producers, the association explained.

From 2018 to 2024, Russia's share in the global surimi market increased to 7 percent, said Alexey Buglak, head of the ADM. Despite this, the Russian Federation still lags far behind its main competitors in terms of output of these raw materials. The production of pollock surimi in the United States last year amounted to 170.5 thousand tons, and in Southeast Asian countries - 318 thousand. The total production of raw materials in the world during this time fell by 4 percent, to 905 thousand tons.

Earlier, Buglak reported a sharp increase in the export of pollock processing products from Russia to China. According to the results of the first seven months of last year, the indicator exceeded the result for the whole of 2023 and reached 32 thousand tons. It was about exporting fillets, minced meat and pollock surimi to the Asian country. The head of the ADM attributed such dynamics, among other things, to a noticeable increase in consumption of these products in China.
