OREANDA-NEWSRussia may reduce the volume of fish supplies to China due to the coronavirus, so domestic fishermen will have to redirect supplies to other markets. This was reported to journalists by the head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Ilya Shestakov.

The Russian agency estimates the volumes of fish delivered from China as insignificant and believes that they can be replaced by domestic products. "Their deliveries are, in fact, insignificant for us. In fact, they supply a little more than 100 thousand tons. Often this is re-export, so it won't play any role for us. Even those freed up volumes of the domestic market will be able to replace our fishermen", said Shestakov.

Speaking about the possibility of introducing a ban on the import of fish products, Shestakov noted that such decisions are not included in the functions of the Federal Fisheries. "Russian departments are monitoring this situation. Based on their decisions, we will look", he said, noting that fish is no different from other food products and the decision will be made as part of a general policy on supplies from this country.
