OREANDA-NEWS. October 10, 2016. UPS (NYSE:UPS) announced today that it expects to hire 1,300 seasonal employees to help with the anticipated surge in package volume that will begin in November and continue through January 2017. Throughout 2016, UPS has been working with its customers to understand their peak shipping needs and plan operations accordingly.

The full and part-time seasonal positions can be an entry point for permanent employment at UPS. Many senior UPS executives, including CEO David Abney, started their UPS careers as part-time employees. Prospective employees can apply online by visiting UPSjobs.com.

During this busy period, consumers can have their shipments delivered to their door or sent directly to a nearby UPS Access Point™ location. These small businesses such as a convenience store, petrol station or newsagent have extended business hours. Consumers can collect and return their packages at these locations at their convenience.

Consumers can also track their packages using the UPS My Choice® service. The free service offers delivery alerts for customers a day in advance so they can plan ahead, reschedule the delivery or reroute a package to another address, including a nearby UPS Access Point location. More than 28 million consumers around the world use the service.

Last year, UPS successfully delivered 612 million packages globally during peak season. On 21 December, UPS’s peak delivery day, it delivered over 36 million packages, double the normal daily average.

UPS in the UK has approximately 8,000 permanent employees, operates 60 facilities, and has a delivery fleet of more than 3,400 vehicles across the country.
