OREANDA-NEWS. The Council of the European Union (EU) has decided to provide Ukraine with € 31 million to strengthen its defense capabilities. This was announced on Thursday, December 2, by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba on Twitter.

“The EU Council has decided to provide Ukraine with € 31 million to strengthen defense capabilities within the framework of the European Peace Fund. We highly appreciate this step, which once again attested to the strategic nature of relations between Ukraine and the EU, ”wrote the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

As Kuleba noted, the money will be spent on material and technical assistance for the development and capacity building of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the fields of medicine, mine clearance, mobility, logistics, and cyber security.

A day earlier, it became known that Ukraine began negotiations with the European Commission (EC) on a new package of financial assistance worth more than € 1.2 billion.

On October 22, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced that it had received the third and final batch of military "aid" from the United States. As it became known, the previous consignments were delivered to Ukraine on October 10 and 18. The deliveries included Javelin ATGMs, NATO caliber ammunition and first aid kits.

US arms deliveries to Ukraine are carried out within the framework of an agreement between the countries on the provision of defense assistance to Kiev in the amount of $ 250 million, medical equipment, weapons, ammunition, precision weapons and radar surveillance equipment. Military aid to Ukraine is estimated at $ 60 million.
