OREANDA-NEWS Hungary has suspended the supply of diesel fuel to Ukraine, Bloomberg reports the words of Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
Earlier, Hungarian MOL stated that the supply of Russian oil via the Druzhba oil pipeline passing through the territory of Ukraine has been stopped since January 27 to both Hungary and Slovakia.
"Today we have decided to suspend the supply of diesel fuel to Ukraine. They will not resume until oil transit to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline is restored," Szijjarto said in a statement on the social network.
"President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has decided not to resume oil transit for political reasons, deliberately endangering Hungary's energy supply, while we play an important role in Ukraine's energy security. A significant part of Ukraine's gas, electricity, and diesel fuel imports come through Hungary or from Hungary. We cannot guarantee the energy security of another country, while our own supplies are at risk. Energy cooperation should be mutual and based on respect, not pressure," the Hungarian Foreign Minister stressed.
In turn, the Slovak government announced that it had decided to allocate 250,000 tons of oil from the State Management of Material Reserves, which would allow Slovnaft to ensure supplies for the republic for at least a month. The company will be able to use these reserves from next week and must return this oil by September 2026.
The government's press service transmits the words of Prime Minister Robert Fico that after the suspension of oil supplies through Druzhba, the government is in intensive dialogue with Slovnat on the search for alternative sources, in particular, using the Croatian Adria oil pipeline. However, the prime minister noted that the transit tariff on this route is five times higher.
At the same time, Fico assured that there would be no shortage of petroleum products in Slovakia. 7.3-7.5 thousand tons of oil per day are needed to supply the territory of the republic. "Currently, Slovnaft is suspending the export of diesel fuel to Ukraine and other exports," the government said in a statement.
