OREANDA-NEWS Since the beginning of July 2023, the volume of retiring primary processing capacities at Russian refineries (refineries) has increased by 38.2 percent. The increase amounted to 0.643 million tons to the previous plan, reaching 2.326 million tons, according to Nasdaq, citing Reuters data and the annual repair plan of the American company Refinitiv.

The actual downtime of primary capacities amounted to 3.966 million tons. In July, the indicator decreased by 17.2 percent, and in comparison with May values fell by 0.824 million tons. In the period from January to July, the total actual downtime amounted to 17.7 million tons (plus 32 percent, or 4,279 million tons more compared to the original downtime schedule for 2023).

The sharp increase in retiring capacity was due to a number of factors. Among the key ones is the extension of repair work at local processing plants, including Astrakhan (until July 27), Komsomolsk (until July 31) and Krasnodar (until August 1). At the same time, according to the current schedule, by the end of July, the volume of outgoing capacities may decrease by 41.3 percent, or by 1.640 million tons compared to June values.

Earlier it was reported that in early June 2023, Russian refineries increased production to the maximum since the second half of April. It was about increasing the processing of raw materials by 26.4 thousand tons per day — up to 748.8 thousand tons per day in the period from June 7 to June 14. However, this figure turned out to be almost 40 thousand tons less in comparison with this year's record (788.3 thousand tons in the first week of April).
