OREANDA-NEWS Energy supplies from Russia play an important role in Japan's energy security and cover about three percent of the country's needs. This was stated by the Acting Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Yoji Muto, quoted by TASS.
"These are (supplies of resources from Russia — approx. "The tapes.ru") plays a very important role in ensuring the energy security of our country," Muto said.
The minister recalled that Japan supplies about 10 percent of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports as part of the Sakhalin-2 project. He also declined to comment on the words of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that Washington expects Tokyo to abandon Russian energy resources.
Earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that the EU is financially on Russia's side while it buys the country's energy resources. He noted that even 3.5 years after the start of the conflict in Ukraine, the European Union continues to buy natural gas and oil from Russia.
