OREANDA-NEWS  The UN Security Council has not adopted a Russian draft resolution on the establishment of an international commission to investigate the undermining of the "Northern Streams", RIA Novosti correspondent reports. The document did not get the required number of votes due to the position of Western countries. Russia, China and Brazil voted in favor, while the rest of the countries abstained.

Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said after the vote that the countries that refused to support the creation of the commission intend to wait for the end of the "national investigations". They are led by Germany, Denmark and Sweden. Mr. Polyansky claims that the length of these investigations raises suspicions of an attempt by Western countries to "hide evidence and clean up the crime scene."

China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dai Bin, expressed regret over the decision of the UN Security Council. He believes that a transparent international investigation of sabotage on pipelines is necessary, the results of which can be made public in the near future.

In the resolution, the Russian side called on UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to establish a special international commission to conduct an investigation. All those responsible for sabotage on pipelines should be brought to justice, the document says.
