OREANDA-NEWS  Japan has dramatically increased purchases of Russian gas. The relevant data from her Ministry of Finance was quoted by TASS.

It turned out that in July 2025, imports of liquefied natural gas from the Russian Federation increased by 372 percent, compared with the same period in 2024. In addition, Russian coal supplies increased by 286 percent.

According to the Japanese Ministry of Finance, in June 2025, this country imported $25.3 million worth of Russian oil, despite the fact that since February 2023, Tokyo has refrained from purchasing this energy carrier from the Russian Federation. In the first half of the year, imports of Russian LNG fell by 3.3 percent and coal by 12.3 percent.

In early June, it became known that the Japanese oil refining company Taiyo Oil had received oil from Russia on a sanctioned tanker. We are talking about the purchase of 600,000 barrels delivered from the Prigorodnoye terminal on the southern part of Sakhalin Island.
