OREANDA-NEWS The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is completely disconnected from the external power supply. This is reported by the press service of the station.

As noted, the NPP lost external power supply due to the shutdown of the 750 kilovolt Dneprovskaya high-voltage line. The station's equipment, despite the shutdown, is safe. At the moment, the station's operation is supported by backup generators. The radiation background at the NPP and the surrounding area is constantly monitored. The natural background values have not been exceeded and are normal. The reasons for the shutdown are still being determined.

On March 17, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky demanded that the Zaporizhia NPP be returned to the republic as safety guarantees. According to him, the station will not resume its work without this. The issue of control over the station became one of the topics of conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump.

Rosatom expressed indifference about the prospects of managing the NPP together with Ukraine. According to Alexey Likhachev, the head of the corporation, there is no need for joint operation.
