OREANDA-NEWS  American telecommunications giant AT&T Inc. will spend more than $250 billion over the next five years to build the "best and largest" network in the United States, the company said.

The current tax and regulatory environment is the most favorable for such investments in decades, AT&T believes.

Investments, among other things, will be aimed at accelerating the deployment of infrastructure for wired, wireless, satellite communications and 5G home Internet in American cities, suburbs and rural areas. The satellite partnership with AST SpaceMobile will expand coverage to remote areas.

AT&T will also invest in the development of network security, threat analysis using AI, and strengthen cooperation with the public sector.

In addition, the company will allocate funds for personnel training, including in the field of artificial intelligence, and this year alone it intends to hire thousands of technicians.

The investment is timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call, which was made on March 10, 1876, by the inventor of the telephone, the founder of AT&T, Alexander Bell. They will help the United States stay connected for the next 150 years, the company claims.

AT&T serves more than 100 million people and about 2.5 million businesses in the country.
