OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2016. IKEA Canada is announcing the next step in its journey of becoming more accessible to the many Canadians by announcing a Collection Point in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Located at Sameday Worldwide, 10 Isnor Drive, Dartmouth, customers can now shop online for IKEA home furnishings and have them delivered to the Collection Point for only \\$59, regardless of the size of their purchase. This represents significant savings over the previous minimum home delivery fee of \\$129 and will also substantially reduce delivery times. For customers who would still like to have their products delivered to their home, delivery fees and shipping times will remain the same.

The Collection Point is not an IKEA store and is owned by a third party service provider. While it will not have any products available for purchase, it puts IKEA one step closer towards bringing the full store experience to the Halifax market.

“We know our customers in the Halifax area are very excited for the new store to open,” said Stefan Sj?strand, IKEA Canada President. “The Collection Point will allow us to immediately provide them with an easier and more affordable shopping experience until our new store opens next year.”

As part of a coast-to-coast expansion effort which will double the store count from 12 to 24 in the next 10 years, IKEA announced plans in January to build a full-size store in the Halifax area. Located at Dartmouth Crossing, the store will take roughly 14-16 months to build once the ground is broken in summer 2016 and will be approximately 328,000 square feet (30,500 metres squared) in size. The store will include a restaurant, Market hall, Showroom, and SM?LAND playroom and offer customers a complete range of convenient services such as product pick-up, home delivery, assembly, planning, returns and exchanges and online sales support.

IKEA Halifax will be constructed to operate as the most sustainable IKEA store in Canada, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and waste avoidance. Key features of the building will include a rooftop solar photovoltaic installation to provide electricity to the store, geothermal energy generation to support heating and cooling needs, as well as 100% LED lighting. Waste management equipment will be installed to maximize material recycling and diversion from landfill, and a free take-back service will be offered for household batteries and light bulbs to ensure the hazardous materials contained are recycled responsibly.

It’s IKEA’s goal to be wherever its customers are and to provide them with the services they expect, whether that’s in a store, on our website, at a Pick up and order point or a Collection Point.
