OREANDA-NEWS Consumption of greenery in Russia by 2030 may increase to 12 kg per person against 7-8 kg this year. This is stated in the message of the Rosselkhoznadzor.

"According to our estimates, now supporters of a healthy diet eat up to 7-8 kg of fresh greens per year. An increase in the production of salads and greens will be facilitated by the continuously growing demand for environmentally friendly and organic products for proper and healthy nutrition. By 2030, every inhabitant of megacities and nearby cities will eat up to 12 kg of fresh greens per year," predicts Natalia Khudyakova, head of the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Regional Forecasting of the Rosselkhoznadzor, whose words are quoted in the message.

According to experts, the growth in the production of salads and greens will stimulate the development and modernization of domestic greenhouse complexes due to the large-scale introduction and use of modern agricultural technologies and equipment, improvement of soil cultivation methods and conditions for growing green crops. At the same time, the Rosselkhoznadzor believes that the production of organic products and products with improved characteristics ("green" products) can also become one of the drivers of the development of Russian crop production for many years to come.

Experts recalled that by the end of 2022, the gross harvest of vegetables of the closed ground amounted to 1.59 million tons, which is 8% more than the previous year. The production of greenhouse cucumbers is estimated at 857.4 thousand tons (an increase of 5% compared to the previous year), tomatoes - at 657.4 thousand tons (an increase of 7%). The production of "other" crops (green, eggplant and pepper) exceeded 60 thousand tons. The production of green crops by the end of 2022 amounted to 42 thousand tons in volume, more than 75% of which falls on leafy salads and greens.
