OREANDA-NEWS The Podolsk City Court of the Moscow region declared illegal the requirement of the Wildberries marketplace to return defective goods at the expense of the buyer.

The marketplace allows "violation of the current legislation, namely: it charges or withholds money from consumers for return delivery when they refuse goods of inadequate quality," the Department of Rospotrebnadzor said.

The company also claims that the court did not fully understand the circumstances of the case. A representative of Wildberries said that the firm intends to appeal the court's decision, since the return of defective goods "was and remains free for buyers."

"The customer pays for the return of the goods only if the goods themselves are of proper quality, and there is an "abuse of the company's free services," he told RBC.

According to the court file, the claim of the Rospotrebnadzor department against Wildberries was satisfied on April 13.

Wildberries is the largest Russian online retailer. The service was founded in 2004 and since then has been operating in all regions of Russia, as well as in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and a number of other countries.
