OREANDA-NEWS Aeroflot has asked the Tupolev Company (part of the United Aircraft Corporation; UAC) to make 99 changes to the passenger cabin of medium-haul Tu-214 aircraft. This follows from the working correspondence between the carrier and the manufacturer in April 2023, which was reviewed by RBC (its authenticity was confirmed by an interlocutor familiar with the Tu-214 delivery project). Representatives of the airline and UAC confirmed that the parties continue to discuss the parameters of the interior of the Tu-214 passenger cabin.

In September 2022, Aeroflot signed an agreement with the UAC on the intention to purchase 339 new Russian aircraft, including 40 Tu-214. At the end of last year, the CEO of the airline, Sergey Alexandrovsky, said in an interview with RBC that she needed Tu-214 in the fleet (the first flight of this aircraft took place back in May 1996) in order to reduce the risks when starting to use new MS-21 aircraft that have not yet been put into commercial operation. Aeroflot has pre—ordered 210 such airliners, the delivery of the first of them is scheduled for December 2024 - January 2025.

The interior of the Tu-214, as well as the aircraft as a whole, are developments from 30 years ago, says Sergey Pavlov, CEO of the Center for Aviation Technologies and Interior (CATI). Therefore, now there are questions about the need to modernize the aircraft taking into account modern requirements and available technological solutions, he explains. Tu-214 aircraft have the potential for development, modernization and customization for the parameters of airlines, the representative of the UAC emphasizes. Aeroflot and UAC are "in a constructive dialogue" on the formation of the appearance of the layout and interior parameters of the passenger cabin of Tu-214 aircraft, the representative of the carrier added.
