OREANDA-NEWS A section of the high-speed railway (HSR) in St. Petersburg and a new terminal are planned to begin construction next year, Alexander Beglov, the governor of the city, said in an interview with RIA Novosti for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"The HSR section in St. Petersburg and the terminal are scheduled to begin construction next year. We have approved the architectural appearance of the terminal and coordinated it with experts. It includes the historical buildings of the Kokorev warehouses. It will be a unique project of its kind. Russian Railways is also currently preparing proposals for a new Obukhovo transport hub and the Volkovskaya passenger station, where electric trains of the Moscow and Volkhovsky directions will move," he said.
The governor noted that the future terminal is planned to be connected by covered galleries with the Ploshchad Vosstaniya metro station, as well as to build a second exit from the Ligovsky Prospekt station.

"A lot of work remains to be done on the integration of the terminal and the metro. It will be connected by covered galleries to the Ploshchad Vosstaniya metro station and will receive a second exit from the Ligovsky Prospekt - 1 station. A new lobby of the Ligovsky Prospekt -2 station of the new Krasnoselsko-Kalininskaya line will open onto the forecourt. This year we will hold a competition for draft proposals for the lobby," Beglov said.
"The construction of the high-speed railway gives us the opportunity to develop the transport and engineering infrastructure of our city. The Directorate of Transport Construction has already concluded a state contract for the preparation of the layout of the station square, the extension of Dnepropetrovsk Street with elements of the reconstruction of Ligovsky Prospekt," he added.
High-speed is considered a specialized electrified double-track railway line for the operation of trains with speeds from 200 to 400 kilometers per hour. So far, there are no such roads in Russia. The pilot project will be a high-speed railway between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Construction of the main section of the highway is scheduled to begin in mid-2025. The road will be fully operational in 2028. The journey time will be 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held on June 18-21. RIA Novosti is the information partner of the forum.
